Comedian, actor and producer, Sean Hayes, studied piano performance at Illinois State University and before graduation, he became a music director. Hayes is most known for his role as Jack on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace for which he won an Emmy Award, 4 SAG Awards, and one American Comedy Award. He received an honorary Ph.D. from Illinois State University in February 2013.

ISU native Redbird, Jane Lynch, graduated in 1982 from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in theater. Lynch is known for her role as cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the Fox musical-comedy series Glee. After breaking through television, Lynch received an Emmy and a Golden Globe as well as two Emmy awards for NBC’s Hollywood Game Night. This past February 16th Jane Lynch received an honorary award at Illinois State’s annual founder’s day.

Two-time Academy award nominee, John Malkovich, attended Illinois State University until 1976. Although Malkovich didn’t finish his theater degree at Illinois State University, he was honored to return in 2005 to receive his diploma. Malkovich has appeared in more than 70 motion pictures, most notably “Red”, “Being John Malkovich”, “Burn after reading” and “In the line of Fire”. He has enjoyed a productive career spanning three decades in Hollywood, earning him 24 award wins.
